In the wake of the raging controversy about who government official 1 in the infamous Airbus Saga could possibly be, Minister of Education Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has given further details.
In an interview he granted Kumasi-based Pure Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he fell short to mention names but gave possible leads which points to only one person in the previous administration.
Host of the show Kwame Adinkrah put the Manhyia South lawmaker on the spotlight when he asked who ‘Government Official 1’is , but without mincing words he responded “Kwame, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, then it is a duck. Somebody who could not answer a question put directly at him ‘are you corrupt?’ When corruption allegations swell around the person we should leave him to answer”
According to him, the documents relating to the court ruling about the Airbus bribery saga indicated a timeframe in which a particular administration was in government with someone chairing the Ghana Armed Forces Council
“There were people in office, there was a Vice President who was in charge of the Ghana Armed Forces Council. They claim that as a result of a purchase of an airbus something happened. I would have expected that what happened in other countries where there are similar reports of alleged bribes paid and received also happens in Ghana. It is in the interest of those who were in power at that time to demand for investigations in order to clear themselves of any wrongdoing”, he stated.
He called for concerted efforts from both the NDC and NPP to make individuals implicated available for the Special Prosecutor to investigate and either identify those culpable who are key to the shady deal or otherwise.
“I believe the UK has done investigations and know the Directors and Shareholders of the company the bribes were paid to. I believe that those persons are known to the UK authorities”, he emphasized.
