Some cattle ranchers at Darso in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti region have accused the Techiman Police Command of taking bribe and letting the leader of a cattle stealing syndicate, Iddrisu Adama to abscond, MyNewsGh.com reports.

The farmers say, Iddrisu Adama, a notorious armed robber was recaptured by the Techiman Police in the Bono East region after jumping bail by the Offinso Circuit Court and going back to his heinous activities with his gang.

“We wanted to lynch him when he was rearrested but the police persuaded to go home, only to be told the next day that they had released him because he had “settled” them”, the angry cattle farmers lamented, calling on the police administration to investigate the matter.

Iddrisu Adama and his gang, have over the past two years stolen over 90 cattle from ranches of the farmers and are no strangers to the police in the area, the farmers say.

The gang leader, according to the farmers has been arrested and freed three times by the police at Ejura, Akomadan and recently Techiman.

The syndicate is reportedly, apart from cattle stealing is also involved in highway robberies around Wa, Sunyani, Techiman, Kintampo and Ejura, where Iddrisu Adama has taken wives and established his bases.

Modus operandi

“Adama and his gang besiege the ranches at night and take herdsmen hostage at gun point and sometimes rape our wives in the process” Kwasi Owusu Ansah, one of the farmers told MyNewsGh.com in an interview.

They then drive as many cattle that their truck can convey to the slaughter and distribute their carcasses to local abattoir and meat sellers at very cheap prices, he explained.

Appeal

The ranchers say they have lost trust in the local police and have therefore called on the police hierarchy and the Attorney General to intervene in this matter.

They have however warned that, Iddrisu Adama would be a dead man should they lay their hands on him again because they do not trust the police to give them justice.

The Techiman Police Command has however remained tight-lipped on the matter and would not confirm nor deny the allegations of the ranchers when MyNewsGh.com sought answers.
