There is tension at Awenade community near Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region after supporters of a rival chief exhumed and dumped a dead body at the home of an opponent.

According to the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) DSP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident to MyNewsGh.com, the deceased Adwoa Antwiwaa 39, was buried at Awenade community cemetery last Friday by her family in accordance with their custom.

On Saturday January 25, 2020 at about 5.10am, the body in a coffin was exhumed and placed in front of the Palace of Nana Danso Ofori II, one of the contending chiefs in the Awenade chieftaincy affairs.

Police led by the Nkawkaw District Commander, Superintendent. Mr Victor Kwakye and the District crime officer, ASP Mr Samuel Opoku Korang proceeded to Awenade and found the coffin which contained the body placed in front of the said Chief’s palace.

The cemetery was visited and an empty grave which was used for the burial of the deceased was found. The body was removed and deposited at the Holy family Hospital mortuary for preservation.

Awenade for some time now has been embroiled in chieftaincy feud with two chiefs holding themselves as legitimates occupants of the stool in the town.

This has created two opposing factions led by the old chief Nana Danso Ofori III on one side, and the new chief Nana Osei Agyei II on the other side.

Security has been stepped up in the community with more armed policemen deployed to the area to forestall clashes as a result of the latest development.
