Two persons including one man who was said to have been drunk, have been confirmed dead in floods within Kumasi after hours of heavy downpour on Monday May 19, 2019, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.
One of the deceased persons has been identified as 32-year- old Kofi Appiagyei, taxi driver who was heavily drunk but risked crossing a section of the road that had been flooded and was swept away at Asawasi in the Asokore Mampong Municipal assembly.
The second person is an 8-year-old school girl only identified as Shamsiya after she had earlier been declared missing at Tafo Adonpom in the Tafo Municipality.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have revealed to MyNewsGh.comthat the bodies of the two have since been retrieved after the level of the flooding waters receded on Tuesday, May 21, 2019
The two-hour rainfall flooded areas including; Ohwim, Amanfrom, Anloga junction, Krofrom, Subin, Airport Roundabout, Tafo, Atafoa and other communities.
Hundreds of residents have been displaced after the rain and buildings close to waterways collapsed.
Assemblyman for Tafo-Nhyiaso Electoral ares, Bashiru Mohammed who was narrating the incident to Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo, revealed that displaced persons are currently stranded as there are no alternative places.
