Some residents of Nuaso in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, have expressed concern over the scattering of human bones from broken in graves in the area.

Apart from the exposure of the bones and old materials used in burning corpses at the cemetery, residents complain of bad odour each time it rains.

They alleged that some youth of the town collect the scattered bones for sale to spiritualists.

A resident and IT Specialist, Benjamin Lamptey who spoke to GBC’s Radio Ghana, said the situation is a worry to residents because of the health hazard it posses, adding that the place houses offices like the EC, CHPs compounds, and schools.

He noted that the cemetery has outlived its usefulness, as the place is completely full.

When contacted, the Municipal Chief Executive, Simon Tetteh, said the Municipal Assembly is seriously working to acquire new land to build a centralized modern cemetery.

The Chief Environmental Officer for Lower Manya Municipal Assembly, Gordon Amevor told GBC’s Radio Ghana, that all four cemeteries in the Municipality are full to capacity, hence the initiative by some community members to burn their dead relations.

He, however, cautioned those in the habit of removing or destroying old cemeteries to stop or be prepared to face the full rigours of the law, especially in these times of COVID-19 outbreak.
