The National Union of Ghana Students on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 visited Asanteman Senior High School and Ejisuman Senior High School in the Ashanti region to acquaint itself with the conditions under which students are pursuing academic work and also to learn about the needs and experiences of students sitting the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The delegation from NUGS led by Mr. Kobby Otchere,Press Secretary of NUGS was accompanied by Mr. Eric Asante ,Financial Secretary of NUGS and Mr. Eric Osei Akoto ,Project and Programs Officer of NUGS interacted with teachers and students of both schools about general academic work and particularly about the effects of the Double Track Schedule.

The students and teachers indicated their contentment with the system in place in their school.

However, they stated their displeasure with the delay in the delivery of the Government provided textbooks. This, understandably, has led to students being unable to comprehensively understand material delivered by tutors.

Final year students sitting the WASSCE, were particularly optimistic in their outlook and expressed their satisfaction with progress made so far.

NUGS encouraged the students to be zealous in their studies and called on the teachers to rededicate themselves to the task of educating the students and to be positive role models.

Candidates of the WASSCE were advised to be thorough in studies as well as in answering examination questions. They were sensitised on the need to be incorruptible and steadfast and to not be tempted to cheat under any circumstances.

NUGS pledged to advocate for the expedited delivery of the Government provided textbooks and used the medium to call on all relevant stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, to resolve this challenge speedily.

NUGS is committed to advocating and safeguarding the interests of Ghanaian students.
