Photos: Teachers Write Exams Questions On Blackboard Following A Directive By GES

Many teachers in public basic schools in the country are forced to write the 2018/2019 second term examinations on the chalkboard.

The arrangement has put undue pressure on teachers considering the efforts they have to put into writing the questions on the board.
The decision to write examination questions on the chalkboard follows a directive by the Ghana Education Service(GES) ordering all basic schools not to charge any levy.

 

 

 

In the past, basic schools had relied on charging printing fees from pupils to print termly examination questions.

 

 

 

 

 

A copy of letters to some basic school heads and intercepted by Ghanaxtr.com reads: “From the directives of Ghana Education Service on the above subject matter, no Headteachers is allowed to collect any form of monies from parents of pupils with regards to improving children’s education.”

 

 

 

 

 

The letter continues that “These cover: PTA dues, Termly Examination printing fees, Mock fees, Extra Classes and all approved permission from the Municipal Chief Executive(All Levies).
It warned that any headteacher who violates the directive by the GES will be dealt with accordingly.
But some headteachers who spoke to this portal on condition of anonymity disclosed that they are surprised by the decision by GES as it will have direct consequences on effective teaching and learning.
They reveal that the decision to write examination questions on the chalkboard is not the best but they forced to comply with the directive.
