For many years the Chokosis and Konkombas in the Chereponi district of the North East region have slain each other over land.

The lives of many – young and old – have seen an abrupt end, those left live in a constant state of fear, not knowing when another gunshot will ring.

In the latest clashes that found new breath on May 19 – just after chiefs and people promised the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo never to go back to their old ways – two lives have been lost.

And while the dead are being mourned, the living are unsure of the life ahead as there seems to be no end on sight to the conflict.

Government workers are fleeing but for the students preparing to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), there is nowhere to run to – as a date has already been set for the exam.

Their mates in the other regions are preparing and have been taken through a series of mock tests to assess their preparedness for the examinations which begins from June 10 to 14.

However, while 15-year-olds in other parts of the country are studying towards the exam, Amadu Hasia and her classmates are in tears.

They have lost more than a month of contact hours and with the recent clashes that have led to the closure of some schools, Amadu is unsure if they can prepare properly before June 10.

In a tearful interaction with Joy News’ Gifty Andoh Appiah, the visibly apprehensive young lady pleaded with the ethnic groups to stop the conflict.

“It is really affecting us,” she cried fearing that with an aggregate 25 cut of point, she and her classmates may be unable to make the required grade.
