EXCLUSIVE: 7 Policemen test positive for Coronavirus in Bolgatanga

MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that seven(7) policemen in total in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.

The latest number is in addition to two others who initially got the virus after being exposed to infected persons who travelled by road to the region.

According to verified police sources, the first batch of infections involved a policemen who was on escort duties to the Upper East Region while the other was also returning to his duty post in the same region after holidays faced same fate.

It has been confirmed that about 137 personnel from the Upper East Regional Police Command have so far been asked to self-isolate as their samples have been taken for testing at Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) awaiting results.

Authorities have since called for calm among personnel and urged them to obey the World Health Organisation’s (WHOs) health protocols of regular hand washing with soap under running water, use of alcohol base hand sanitizers and social distancing.

The Upper East Region has so far recorded 18 cases of the virus with one death.

According to officials of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the deceased COVID-19 patient in the Bawku Municipality, is a 52 year old woman from Mazema, a Community in the Bawku Municipality.

She visited the Presbyterian Hospital in Bawku on the 7th April with fever, difficulty in breathing, coughing, running nose, diarrhea and muscular joint pains.

Samples were taken for test upon the suspicion of COVID-19, unfortunately the patient died before the release of her test results which proved positive.
