The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has declared an indefinite strike action.

This comes after complaints submitted to the Health Ministry did not receive any fruitful outcomes.
General Secretary of MOWAG, Richard Kofi Jordan on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Thursday said the indefinite strike will begin on March 5, 2019.

According to the aggrieved mortician, they are exposed to several diseases in view of the dead bodies and chemicals they come into contact with but each time they raise concerns, the government appears to be dragging its feet.
“The chemicals we use give us five different kinds of cancers, the government is aware of this situation. We are also at risk of blindness but nobody is addressing our challenges,’’ he stressed.
He added that, no provision for universal medical checkups for mortuary workers in public health institutions and this and many other illegalities are what they want the government to correct.

Mr. Jordan said members have been working more than the required eight hours without being allowed to take their annual vacation.
He bemoaned how  many proposals regarding their problem sent to the Ministry of Health on October 2017 and subsequently in June and September 2018 did not received any response.
Richard Jordan advised persons who wish to die to either die before March 5 or postpone it until they resume work.
