Turn your homes into mortuaries- striking Mortuary workers tell Ghanaians

Striking mortuary m under the umbrella of the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has advised Ghanaians to learn how to preserve their dead relatives in their homes because services of members is no longer available to the public.

Mortuary workers across the country in public health institutions are embarking on a strike action to demand for better conditions of service from government and its allied agencies.
It would be recalled that last year, they suspended a planned strike to demand better condition of service and improved working conditions as was reported by MyNewsGh.com.
Mortuary men in public health facilities for some time now have been up in arms with the government over their poor working conditions and are therefore demanding improved services including the salaries they say is nothing good to write home about.
General Secretary of mortuary workers Union Richard Kofi Jordan in an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com said all public mortuaries in the country will be closed to the public today March 5, 2019.

According to him, bad conditions at mortuaries in the country having bad implications on their health saying they sometimes find it difficult to eat and must therefore be remunerated well.
“It is regrettable that our concerns should have reached this apex such that we have no alternative than to resort to a nationwide industrial action that is envisaged will bring a profound result. In terms of remuneration, it is unfortunate to state that Mortuary workers are treated as most unrecognized in the sector and for that matter, least paid on the salary structure of Ministry of Health with no single allowance. Many of the Mortuary facilities are understaffed, no maintenance which compromises on health and safety rules of the sector making the workers unnecessary to suffer in silence “he said.
Richard Kofi said all dead bodies would be rejected from today while those in the mortuary will be left to root.
Meanwhile the Health Ministry was set to meet Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) on Monday, March, 04, 2019 to avert an impending nationwide strike but details of the meeting MyNewsGh.com gathered has been inconclusive.
