The creation of new regions and siting of regional capitals in the country by the current government has resulted in series of controversies as there is currently a turf war among the various communities on who among them become the regional capital.

There have been heated disagreements and in some cases pockets of violence among various stakeholders and government appointees over the siting of the regional capitals after a successful referendum late last year.

Rather than organize press conferences and fora addressing the Minister for Regioanl Reorganization or the President in order to be heard in Accra, the people of Kete Krachi have taken their petition for a Capital to a higher level- they have taken it to God.
Residents of Keta Krachi in the Krachi West District held a massive prayer session with the aim of having the capital of the newly created Oti Region.
This was contained in an interview granted GBC and monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Monday
This comes with believe of most Ghanaians that, having regional capital in one’s area brings massive development but some political analysts have said otherwise.

“Yesterday whiles at church I learnt that all Christians within the enclave were supposed to meet at a particular church at Keta Krachi and pray so that Keta Krachi becomes the   regional capital. And God will touch the heart of all other districts so that no one will feel peeved but they should come together in unity and solidarity to see how they can move the region ahead”. GBC’s corresponded Alfred reported from the region.
The NPP government led by Nana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2016 election campaign promised to create more regions with the aim of speeding up development in the country.
A commission was however set up and after their findings, a referendum was held in the areas where the newly region were supposed to be created with North East, Savannah, Oti, Bono East, Ahafo, and Western North birthed.

This indicates that, Ghana will soon add 6 more regions to the existing 10 making it 16 regions in total.
