Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has given shocking revelations of how the late Professor Evans Atta Mills prevented him from prosecuting his cousin who was neck-deep in shady procurement and other corrupt acts that was bleeding this country, MyNewsGh.com has filed.

Suggesting Atta Mills was a corrupt man who publicly apppeared to be against corruption but secretly fought against the fight against corruption and corrupt people, Amidu made shocking revelations about the late Atta Mills.

Amidu disclosed that the then President’s cousin had engaged in corrupt acts by breaching numerous procurement procedure in the purchase of motor bicycles for the Ghana National Fire Service, and breach of procurement procedures and laws in the procurement of regimental band equipment for the Ghana National Fire Service which required that he be prosecuted.

He therefore insisted in hauling him before the courts with three prepared dockets which was covertly resisted by the President at the time by asking his (Martin Amidu’s) deputy to collect the three dockets from the Director of Public Prosecutions and lock them up.

Amidu refuses to name the said “cousin”.

Mr Amidu in his latest response to a thread of allegations made against him in a lengthy article sighted by MyNewsGh.com said “Let me be clear. Nobody will use me or my Office for political investigations or prosecutions while I remain the Special Prosecutor.

My track record attest to this fact. I bowed out as the Attorney General and Minister of Justice in January 2012 because I refused to be used for the prosecution of fellow citizens purely on party political grounds. There was a time I insisted on prosecuting President Mill’s cousin on three dockets for corruption, breach of procurement procedure in the purchase of motor bicycles for the Ghana National Fire Service, and breach of procurement procedures and laws in the procurement of regimental band equipment for the Ghana National Fire Service.

One of the suspects in the corruption case was my own late housemate in Martin Luther King House in Navrongo School, Hall mate in Commonwealth Hall, Legon, and my very close friend as a lawyer who was then a Chief State Attorney at the Attorney General’s Office. It is an open secret that the late President avoided prosecution only by asking my deputy to collect the three dockets from the Director of Public Prosecutions and lock them up when I was attending the Commonwealth Minister’s Conference in Sydney, Australia in July 2011”

He continued “Let me repeat: Nobody can use me or my Office for political investigations or prosecutions as long as I remain the Special Prosecutor. Thankfully, this President has kept his promise of giving me a free hand in fulfilling my mandate under the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959)”
