Business Committee Concerned About Increasing Number Of Visitors To Parliament
The Majoritt Leader and head of the Business Committee Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has expressed concern about the increasing number of visitors to Parliament, contrary to a directive by Speaker Oquaye to reduce the number of visitors to the House as part of measures to prevent the introduction and reduce the spread of the corona virus in Parliament.

The Leader also bemoaned the continuous reporting for duty and attendance to the House by some MPs’ Research Assistants and National Service Personnel, in defiance to the Speaker’s directive, pursuant to the Covid-19 imperatives is a threat to the fight against the Covid-19 spread in the House.

Hon. Osei Kyei Bonsu was presenting a business statement for the fourth week ending Friday, June 5th, 2020, on the floor of the House today.

The Committee in its Business Statement appealed to Members of Parliament and Staff of the Parliamentary Service as well as staff of other institutions working within the precincts of the House to desist from inviting visitors to Parliament.

It directed all Honourable Members and Staff or others concerned to seek clearance from Leadership of their respective caucuses or the Clerk to Parliament in cases where it is very compelling to do so.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker has been at the forefront of the fight to prevent the possible introduction and spread of the Coronavirus in Parliament and has used various platforms to urge both Members and Staff to follow the protocols for preventing the spread of the disease.
