The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)  of plotting a mass transfer of votes to the Nanton and Karaga constituencies up North.

A statement issued by the NDC in the Northern Region said:“the Electoral Commission in conjunction with the New Patriotic Party {NPP} is attempting to illegally transfer some NPP votes from the Tamale Central and Tamale South constituencies to karaga and Nanton respectively in furtherance of a plot to influence the outcome of the 2020 elections in those constituencies”.

The statement also said the NDC has gathered that a meeting on the transfer agenda was held at the offices of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council earlier in the week where some Electoral Officers in the region were to be tasked to commence the illegal mass transfers so as to help the NPP parliamentary candidates in Karaga and Nanton.

The statement signed by the deputy Northern Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, Iddrisu Hardi Pagazaa said, the EC’s elaborate plan to help the NPP win some parliamentary seats in the region is being monitored and will be resisted at all levels within the confines of the laws.

“We want to warn those who are planning to bus people from Tamale to Karaga and Nanton constituencies to vote on Election Day to desist since their presence there would be ferociously resisted. These two constituencies are not dumping grounds for those desperate for parliamentary seats. We do not want the 2004 Jakpahi incident in the Tolon district to recur and the only way to avert that is for the E.C. and the NPP to discontinue this rather wicked and shameful rigging plan”.
