The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has said the party supports former President John Dramani Mahama in asking the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to investigate murder allegations made against him by the governing New Patriotic Party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Abronye DC.

In a letter written by his lawyer Tony Lithur, Mr Mahama said Abronye DC has accused him and some members of the NDC of plotting to kill some NPP personalities including his accuser (Abronye DC).

These allegations, according to the letter, were made by Abronye DC in a TV Programme on NET2 in Accra.

According to the letter, Abronye DC also accused Mr Mahama of killing his former boss, the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

Mr Mahama, in his letter, said the allegations are false.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra100.5FM on Thursday, 7 May 2020, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said: “Ghana is a country of laws, therefore, if someone makes such an allegation against you, the person must be asked to provide evidence or be dealt with”.

“And, so, we, as party, fully support the action by Mr Mahama. The matter borders on criminality and, so, we hope the police will deal with it appropriately,” he told show host Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don).

Meanwhile, a deputy general secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahen, has said that although he would personally not endorse the use of unprintable words by political commentators, former President John Dramani Mahama’s petition to the Director-General of the CID against his nephew is “fundamentally flawed”.

Reacting to the concerns of the National Democratic Congress flag bearer, Mr Boahen told Blessed Sogah, host of Class91.3FM’s State of the Nation programme that the NDC must also take interest in ordering followers of Mr Mahama, including Kevin Taylor and pro-opposition radio station Power FM, to desist from their continuous attack on President Akufo-Addo, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia and other members of the NPP.

“There are a lot of such characters”, he said, adding that: “You think that they have a monopoly over insults? Do you think that they have a monopoly over insults? Go and listen to Power FM, worse things are being said about President Akufo-Addo, Dr Bawumia and the NPP as a party. Listen to Kevin Taylor, worse things are being said and you think that some of us also we are not human beings? I would not encourage that but I am saying that look, if it comes to the question of pouring out unprintable words, NDC doesn’t have a monopoly over these things”, he said.

Nana Obiri Boahen is also of the view that: “It should be tit for tat, Kevin Taylor says it, Abronye DC will say it”.

He, however, explained that “while you want me to advise my colleagues, friends, party members in NPP, which I’m prepared to do, you must also take that responsibility to advise the Kevin Taylors, people in the Power FM insulting us”.
