Madam Akua Donkor

The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit filed by the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, which sought to remove President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from office.

The seven-member panel presided over by Justice Jones Doste, after dismissing the suit, slapped a cost of GHS10,000 on Akua Donkor.

The farmer-turned-politician had prayed the apex court on 30 June 2018 to order the removal of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia from office after their names popped up in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ investigative piece on corruption in Ghana football.

She argued that their removal would allow the relevant state agencies to investigate the allegations made by Anas in his secret recordings.

When the case was called on Wednesday, 27 November 2019, the panel indicated that the GFP leader had written for the case to be withdrawn for settlement.

But, Mr Sylvester Williams, a Chief State Attorney told the court that there was nothing to be settled per the request of the applicant.

Mr Williams argued that the writ filed by the applicant was incompetent.
