Felix Kwakye Ofosu, former Deputy Minister of Communications

Former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has observed that instead of President Akufo-Addo’s pledge to fight against corruption, corruption is now fighting him.

Mr Ofosu has described the strides outlined by the president at a gathering of the Annual Bar Conference in Takoradi on Monday by President Akufo-Addo as empty rhetoric.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen after the president’s briefing, Mr Ofosu described the president’s speech as “same old story”.

He noted that the President who labelled the National Democratic Government as corrupt was now being hit with the biggest scandals in the country’s history.

Corruption is now fighting Akufo-Addo instead of him fighting corruption. He has done very little in the fight against corruption especially when he has begun by installing a nepotic government, he said.

He is dismissing being a clearing agent but there has not been any concrete report and investigations on his appointees found culpable in corrupt cases. He has not been able to prosecute even a hen despite the numerous corruption cases, Mr Ofosu added.

According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, people are in court over trivial matters while people who have been exposed for serious corrupt matters have only been suspended.

Contrary to expectations and suggestions that President Akufo-Addo should take ‘hard’ measures against alleged corrupt appointees to serve as a deterrence, the president speaking at the annual conference said:

My job is to act on allegations of corruption by referring the issue or issues to the proper investigative agencies for the relevant inquiry and necessary action. That is exactly what has been done since I assumed the mantle of leadership on 7th January 2017.

According to the president, the referral of those cases to the proper investigative agencies for due process to be followed and the necessary actions taken has been enforced diligently under his watch.
