for musicians and entertainers as Covid-19 hits thousands of
livelihoods in the music and entertainment
industry in Ghana:

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Presidential Aspirant and Chairman for MUSIGA Greater-Accra Regional Branch, Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi has made an urgent appeal to the Government of Ghana to financially support musicians and entertainers as Covid-19 hits thousands of livelihoods in the music and entertainment industry in Ghana.

“At this juncture, I am sending out an SOS signal to the government of Ghana seeking urgent intervention as the industry that employs several thousands of people has come to a standstill following the national lockdown”.

Ras Caleb claims that “several thousands of musicians and staff, have been directly impacted, and their livelihood is at risk as all major national and international events are postponed or cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic”.

“Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the impact to their business has been unprecedented with multiple global and national events having been postponed or simply cancelled.”

“The adverse impact of this crisis on the events and experiential industry is expected to last for months, and this is very scary for all”.

“The pandemic has led to cancellations of concerts, conferences, both public and private, national/international meetings, incentives, exhibition events, choking the lifeline of the industry”.

“Besides the several thousands that are employed directly, the events and entertainment industry indirectly provides jobs to another millions through allied sectors like food and beverages, hospitality, tourism, advertising and marketing industry”.

Chairman Ras said “the pandemic has slammed the brakes on our industry impacting the livelihood of millions”.

“Our industry is unable to pay the staff salaries, taxes, banks, etc, so government must reach out to our musicians and entertainers”.

“Until entertainment industries can turn the lights back on, companies should follow strict crisis response strategies, and support the industry in anyway they can”.

“Truly, coronavirus has dimmed the lights on live entertainment globally, and this is a great sense of worry to all”.

“COVID-19’s impact on society are unprecedented and nobody can say precisely when we will return to normal public life”.

“As the world awaits the end of social distancing measures, live event and entertainment companies have no choice but to pause and look forward — anything but just throwing their hands up. I pray that His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will heed to our humble appeal”, Appiah-Levi concluded.
