Video: Watch VGMA official shed tears over Stonebwoy, Shatta clash

About 80 security personnel and 40 ushers were on duty at the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) but none was enough to prevent George Quaye’s efforts from going down the drain.

It took the actions of just two men – dancehall acts, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy to make nonsense of his efforts and the thoughts of that forced tears out of him as he pondered at the studio of Hitz FM.

The visibly worried George Quaye debunked rumours of a breakdown in security, insisting that the VGMA Board did what was standard practice when it came to security.

Shatta Wale followed Stonebwoy with his team moments after Stonebwoy was announced as the winner of Reggae & Dancehall Artiste of the Year.

The attempt by Shatta to get onto the stage and a subsequent attempt to prevent him by a member of Stonebwoy’s camp resulted in a clash that caused the latter who was on the podium receiving the award to pull a gun.

The situation temporarily disrupted the ceremony, causing some patrons to leave the event in fear.

Narrating what he saw to Andy Dosty, Mr Quaye said there was adequate security at the auditorium hence was surprised the incident happened.

“There were not less than 80 security men and about 40 ushers … there was adequate security. You watch EPL and watch some spectators go onto the field. Breaches do happen everywhere. And everything that happened was reported. From Saturday all through till today, it’s been like a funeral to me,” he told Andy Dosty.
