Asante Kotoko continued their impressive run in the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition with another home victory on Wednesday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors recorded a 2-0 home win over their regional rivals Obuasi Ashanti Gold SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The first department of the match was balanced as both sides could be found guilty for squandering the chances created and set-pieces awarded to them.

Shafiu Mumuni could have fetched the opener for the visitors but his thunderbolt strike was fisted out by goalkeeper Felix Annan.

Kotoko gained possession as Abdul Fatatwu and Abdul Ganiyu wasted a goal glaring opportunities on the 15th and 17th minute respectively.

Striker Mumuni failed to connect a cross from Amos Kofi Nkrumah on the 19th minute as Abdul Fatawu’s powerful shot on the edge of the 18-yard box went wide.

Goalkeeper Felix Danso made two brilliant saves to deny Shafiu Mumuni from scoring before the half-hour mark.

On the stroke of halftime, Jordan Opoku’s powerful shot was saved by the woodwork as the first half ended in a scoreless draw.

Back from the break, Kotoko gained possession to mount pressure on the visitors to break the deadlock.

Striker Abdul Fatawu Safiu delightfully opened the floodgate on the 72nd minute of the game.

Six minutes later, Fatawu Safiu registered his third goal of the competition with another brilliant finish which made it 2-0 for the Porcupine Warriors.

In the dying embers of the game, Ashanti Gold SC tried their luck with long range shots but failed to find the back of the net.
