Two arrested in Kasoa for blackmailing and defrauding ‘gay men’ The suspects, (L- R) Sam Akai and Philip Larbi
The Kasoa Divisional Police Command in the Central Region has arrested two persons who posed as gay men to blackmail and defrauded their victims believed to be homosexuals.
The two, Philip Larbi (Ghanaian) and Sam Akai (Liberian), were arrested by the Kasoa Divisional Police Command at Gomoa Budumbura, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region.
Speaking to Citi News, ACP David Agyemang Agyem, the Kasoa Divisional Police Commander, explained that the two individuals often use LGBTI app called ‘grindr’ to lure their prospective victims and rob them.
Explaining the modus operandi of these blackmailers, the Divisional Commander, said that the victims mostly LGBTI men are lured to Gomoa Budumburam in the Central Region under the guise of meeting their partners for sex, but upon arrival are threatened at knifepoint and all their monies and other valuables taken away from them.
“They lure these victims to the Budumburam Camp and rob them of their valuables and sometimes transfer monies of their victims from their mobile money wallet onto their phone”, he explained.
The Commander also mentioned that the suspects take naked photos of the victims and later threaten to post them on social media if they don’t adhere to financial demands made by them.
“They use these photos and videos as bait to demand for money occasionally from their victims”.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the group namely Gadaffi and Sparta are currently on the run after these two were arrested.
“We have given out pictures of them to the general public and hope to arrest them soon, but the public must be on the lookout for them” ACP David Agyemang Agyem hinted.
He further warned individuals who visit the “grindr” website to be wary of these black mailers since they are out there to do evil.
“Those who visit the “grindr” website which is an LGBTI site must be careful and must watch out for criminals since they are looking for people to devour” ACP Agyemang noted.
