‘If terrorists in Burkina Faso open up for dialogue even though they hold a contrary ideology or opinion in the practice of Islam, we can still have a dialogue’, spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu has revealed.

The National Chief Imam, Sheik Osam Nuhu Sharubutu’s call for dialogue follows warning by the Africa Center for Security and Intelligence Studies (ACSIS) that Churches in Ghana have now become a potential target of a terrorist group called Salafi-Jihadist based in the neighbouring Burkina Faso.

In a security alert, the Centre revealed that the group has been moving in and out of Ghana’s border with Burkina Faso more than four months now.

Their most immediate target would be churches in the Northern Region while the terrorists are likely to operate from mining zones, ACSIS has said.

Already, the Salafi-Jihadist militants in February 15, 2019, killed four Burkinabe customs officers at a checkpoint at Nohao near the Ghana border and burnt three vehicles.

They are also reported to have killed a Spanish priest.

But speaking in an interview with GBC’s Radio Programme Behind the News monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Sheik Aremeyaw pleaded with the terrorist to look more to the likes of the prophet Mohammed (SAW) and his spirit of tolerance and understanding and similarly learn how to resolve issues without necessarily spilling blood.

“If that is the story they want to tell the world about the Prophet Mohammed (SAW)”. He said.

According to him, the Chief Imam also thinks the Prophet Mahammed has been so presented to the world wrongly as if he is a war monger by these groups who slay people in the pursuit of their clandestine agenda.

“As far as I’m concerned, the Prophet Mohammed is not such a person and I want to call on the Salafi-Jihadist militants to revise the ideology and remove this out of the political circumstance of the country”. Sheik Aremeyaw advised

He cautioned that if the Jihadists have any political issue they should deal with the issue in the context of their individual countries and not to associate Islam with their concerns adding that when there is a true teachings of Islam to these terrorists there is nothing that should impede the effort of peace making.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Defence Minister Major Retired Derrick Oduro has given the assurance that the country’s security apparatus is widely awake and firmly on the ground to quell any incident of terrorist attack.

The National Association of Christian and Charismatic Churches has also launched a campaign to get churches across the country to scale up their internal security in the wake of terrorism scare.
