The deadly coronavirus has hit the presidency forcing the country’s President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to begin a fourteen-day self-isolation after a person in his inner circle tested positive for COVID-19, a statement signed by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.
According to the Information Minister, the President has tested negative for the virus, but is self-isolating as a precautionary measure given that he has been exposed to the virus.
Even in isolation at the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House, the President will continue to discharge his duties, the statement said.
Several high profile government officials have contracted the virus, notably Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu, Deputy Trade Minister Carlos Ahenkorah, who has now resigned, among others.
