Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem Nursing Training College, a Kumasi based health institution, has been renamed as Royal Nursing College.
The change of name, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the college, Samuel Owusu King, was a decision reached between the school authorities and Manhyia Palace on Wednesday.
The college was named after the 13th Queenmother of Ashanti, Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem II, who passed on November 2016.
She was the mother of the current King of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Samuel Owusu King said the change of name reflects the variety of courses it has introduced to make it compete at the international level.
“Though we have changed the name, the school will continue expand and deliver quality health care education for people who seek to pursue nursing career,” he said.
The school which is located at Tafo Nhyiaeso in the Tafo municipality, offer programmes such as Diploma in Laboratory, Diploma in Health Assistance and Diploma in Health Care among others.
The school was established in 2006 and is affiliated to University to Cape Coast (UCC), Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC), National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABTEX), Nursing and Midwifery Council and London School of Nursing.
It is accredited by the National Accreditation Board.
