Oyarifa residents block road after man is killed by speeding car

Residents of Oyarifa blocked the road and burnt tyres in protest after a man, believed to be in his thirties, was knocked down by a speeding vehicle leading to his death.

The incident happened at Oyarifa Ghana flag on the highway to Aburi. According to the residents, the police arrived two hours after the incident while the body was left on the road.

The highway has become a death trap because of the absence of speed ramps according to the residents.

“Many many accidents happen all the time. We are not safe. We are pleading with the government; they should have ramps at every junction from Oyarifa to Aburi,” one resident said.
The driver has since turned himself in to the Adenta police and is currently in custody.
The body of the deceased, Cyril Kwesi Godor, has since been deposited at the police morgue.

Adenta highway protests
In the same constituency last year, residents along the Madina-Adenta stretch of the N4 Highway rose up in protest over deaths on that stretch of the road.
In some instances, residents blocked the road and set fire to tyres.
Days after the most intense protest in the area, some construction workers were seen erecting hoardings for work on the footbridges to begin.
The work on the six footbridges is expected to be completed by April.
