Ghanaian veteran highlife musician Nana Ampadu has revealed in an interview that he started rap music in Ghana.
According to the ‘Mene Wo Beye’ hitmaker, he was the first musician to venture into rap and thus can be regarded as the originator of rap.

He also stated that his ‘Ebi Te Yie’ hit song was the first rap song he recorded in 1967 until the second one titled ‘Kukurukukuru’ which he released in 1990.
“As far as I know, I started rap music before Gyadu Blay Ambulley in 1967. I even released ‘Kukurukukuru’ in 1990 which was my second rap music and I’m going to make all those songs available to you,” Nana Ampadu revealed.

Recently, Ghanaian highlife musician, songwriter, producer and composer, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley recently revealed that he started rap music in Ghana with his first rap album dubbed ‘Simigua’ in 1973.
However, these two veteran musicians are legends in the Ghana Music Industry and have both carved a niche for themselves.

Nana Ampadu is believed to have composed over 800 songs and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley is widely known to be the first musician from Ghana to formally incorporate rap forms into local highlife rhythms.
