Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kwamina Duncan presenting motorbikes to the Presiding Members
In line with the government’s commitment to deepen the decentralization process and local governance, 10,000 assembly members in the country are set to receive motorbikes to enable them discharge their civic duties as mandated by the local governance act.
Logistics Coordinator at JSA Logistics Ghana Limited, which is part of the JOSPONG Group, Mr. Leslie Adjei gave the hint during the presentation of 844 motorbikes to the assembly members in the Central Region where all the 22 Presiding Members of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) received them behalf of their colleagues.
According to him, last year there was tender advertisement for the distribution of motorbikes to the MMDAs and JSA logistics took part in the tendering process and were able to win the contract to procure and distribute the bikes to beneficiary assembly members
Mr. Adjei stated that, the Ministry of Local Government procured the motorbikes through his outfit to be given to all the assembly members to ensure that they reached out to the community members within their electoral areas
He entreated those who have not gotten theirs to remain calm since his outfit in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders are working to ensure that they are all served.
The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kwamina Duncan on his part charged the beneficiaries assembly members to use the motorbikes for the purposed for which government procured them and not the other way round.
According to him, he will work with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to do monitoring every three months to ensure proper maintenance of the motorbikes.
The Dean of Central Regional Presiding Members, Mr. Jojo Bondzie thanked the JSA Logistics Ghana Limited and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for fulfilling his promise and promised on behalf of the assembly members to use the motorbikes for the purpose for which they were procured.
He appealed to the Central Regional Coordinating Council and DVLA as matter of urgency to get a riding licenses for all the assembly members in order for them not to fall foul of the law.
Mr. Bondzie again charged all the various MMDAs to fuel the Motorbikes for each and every assembly member since their sitting allowances cannot fuel the motorbikes.
