Some fish sellers at the Asafo Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have threatened to stage demonstration against the Electricity Company of Ghana ECG over the recent intermittent power outages in the region.

According to the market men and women, the situation is impacting their businesses negatively, saying,”our business are collapsing of the power outages caused by ECG in the region.

They indicated that their customers do not buy from us when they come and find out that our products are thaw, leading to huge losses of income.

“We are also losing customers as a result of the recent power outages”,they added.

Speaking to news men on February 15,2024,the traders revealed that they have provided jobs to a number of youth which has reduced unemployment rate in the country, adding that all they can do is to lay off workers if they keep loosing because of low income.

They therefore entreated the Electricity Company of Ghana to find a solution to the lighting problem in the country.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed the recent power cuts in the Ashanti Region to the restoration of redundancies in power distribution.

Parts of the region have in the past few days experienced intermittent power outages with some areas plunged into darkness for nearly 12 hours.

This situation is adversely impacting some businesses and livelihoods.

But the Ashanti South Business Unit of ECG says the country is not back to load shedding.
