NDC outdoors NEW vigilante group; Eastern Mambas

The number of vigilante groups emerging from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) appear to be increasing by the day as a new one “Eastern Mambas” has been outdoored, MyNewsGh.com.

President John Dramani Mahama is currently on a 5-day campaign tour of the Eastern Region where he is expected to meet delegates and explain to them why he is the most suitable candidate among the rest to lead as torch bearer of the umbrella family.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that it was for that reason the group made up of heavily built machomen all wearing Black T-Shirts with the inscription “Eastern Mambas”was outdoored to provide security to the former president.

The creation of ‘Eastern Mambas ’ follows a warning from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), to both New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and other political parties, to dissolve all vigilante groups within their respective parties.

Recently, Award-winning Broadcast Journalist, Kwami Sefa Kayi is called on Ghanaians desirous of ending violence and thuggery in Ghana politics to desist from calling groups such as Delta, Hawks, and Invisible Forces ‘vigilante groups’, but rather by their rightful names which he says imclude ‘hooligans’, ‘thugs’, ‘vagabonds’ and ‘thieves’

The top journalist descended on vigilante groups of the two main political parties describing their conduct as not vigilantism but perpetrating criminality under the protection of their political paymasters.

In his explanation, these groups are a bunch of “vagabonds, hooligans, thugs and thieves” who go about violating the laws of the country with impunity just because they are aligned to one political party or the others.

But a former Deputy Minister under the erstwhile Mahama administration, Joseph Yammin in defense of the formation of such groupings said unlike the vigilante groups of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), noted for violent conduct, the Hawks and sister groups are law-abiding and only protect activities of the party which is within the precincts of the country’s laws.

“The Hawks are not destructive like the Delta Force. Have you heard that they have gone to a court to release anyone or have you heard that they beat up someone”, he justified.
