Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Osei Assibey Antwi

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi has been accused by residents of Asokwa in the newly created municipality of diverting proceeds of Oti landfill site into his private pocket at the detriment of the development in the area, MyNewsGh.com has filed.

“He is just collecting money from Zoomlion, tricycle operators (‘aboboyaa’), and other sanitation companies for himself to the detriment of the people”, Assembly man for Atonsu Kuwait, Hon. Elliot Ofosu-Bannor alleged.
According to him, monies generated from the landfill site are directly accounted to the KMA Mayor instead of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly (AsMA) and residents of Oti and the nearby communities which should have been the case.
In a petition, Hon. Elliot Ofosu-Bannor who is also the Presiding Member of AsMA described the attitude of the Kumasi Mayor as uncalled for hinting residents will soon stage another  massive demonstration against the Mayor and some civil servants at KMA.

“We the inhabitants cannot sit down for things to get worse…we believe that it is the Asokwa Municipal Assembly that can manage the landfill site well since it falls within its jurisdiction. Our main concern is that KMA Mayor is not fumigating the area, causing stench which could impact on the health of the good people at Oti and the nearby communities within the Municipality”
But the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has laid the blame for the increasing pressure mounted on it by the Asokwa Municipal Assembly for the management of the Oti Landfill Site at Atonsu Kuwait to machinations by the Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah.
Presiding Member of the KMA and Assembly Member of the Nhyiaeso Electoral Area, Hon. Abraham Boadi chided the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah for taking a stance in the matter without recourse to diplomacy.

He said the behavior of the regional minister has prejudiced the conclusion on the matter and argued that, the KMA is in the best position to be managing the landfill site because there is a huge debt to be cleared.
