The Bosome Freho District Assembly, in the Ashanti region, on 22 June, 2019 as part of government intervention program dubbed ‘’PLANTING FOR FOOD AND EXPORT’’ has distributed over One Hundred Thousand (100.000.00) cocoa nurseries to farmers as part of measures to increase cocoa production in the district.

The initiative, which will be done annually, is expected to assist farmers who have lost their farms through galamsey activities in the area.
The District Chief Executive of Bosome Freho District Assembly, Hon. Yaw Danso, explained that the project seeks to offer support to the teaming farmers whose cocoa farms were affected by the activities of galamsey and aging cocoa trees.

According to him, the district was among the best-producing cocoa district in the Ashanti region, but its performance is not encouraging enough lately hence, the move to assist farmers with the free seedlings.

The government has also been initiating policies to meet the one million metric tons of cocoa and this effort is hoped will complement the efforts. Among some of these initiatives taken by the government is the free distribution of cocoa seedlings to cocoa farmers, cocoa mass spraying and hand pollination exercise.

The DCE was optimistic that the project will give a facelift to cocoa production in the area and also improve the socio-economic well-being of his people, and the country as a whole.
“The primary occupation of the people is farming, and it is incumbent upon me as the DCE to offer the best policies and programmes that will inure to the benefit of the people,” he added.
