Mahama picks Number 3 again; but this time analysts say he’s headed for victory

Former President John Dramani Mahama, top frontrunner in the upcoming NDC flagbearership race has picked the third slot on the ballot paper again.

However, unlike the 2016 polls, analysts of the National Democratic Congress’(NDC’s) upcoming presidential primary say he is headed for a convincing win come February 23rd 2019, MyNewsGh.com has filed.

Pollster Ben Ephson has said there is no way any of the aspirants can beat Mr Mahama alone, and everywhere the former President has visited, delegates have shown him love more than any other aspirant of the NDC.

Mr Mahama’s campaign has been national in nature, disregarding his opponents but heading for the president in his jabs. Akufo-Addo has however said he doesn’t respond to “aspirants”.

During the balloting for slots on Wednesday, the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Alban Bagbin, picked the first slot followed by businessman, Nurudeen Iddrisu.

The fourth slot was picked by Sylvester Mensah, followed by Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh and Prof. Joshua Alabi in that order.

The balloting for the slots was done today, Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

All the five aspirants were duly vetted at the NDC’s headquarters on Tuesday with each person expressing confidence of emerging victorious in the party’s presidential primary.

The NDC’s Acting Director of Elections, Bede-Ziedin, told the media that printing of ballot papers will take place from 3rd to 17th February 2019, after which they would be forwarded to all their constituency centres where the election will be held.

But Constituency Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Bantama in the Ashanti Region has said there is no competent person in his party than Former President John Dramani Mahama to compete and defeat President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in the 2020 general elections.

“We are all behind him (John Dramani Mahama) because we know that he is the only one for now who can win power for the NDC in 2020”. Mr. David Kwasi Hededzi, Constituency Chairman for Bantama has said.

According to him, it will be very difficult for anybody from the NDC to win power come 2020 because none of them has the track record to compete with Akufo Addo who is likely to seek reelection in 2020.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com’s Syxtus Eshun in Kumasi, Mr. Hededzi categorically stated that, “the comparison is now going to be between him (John Mahama) and Akufo Addo”.

“If we bring in a new person, it may not be good for us. The person coming doesn’t have any track record of being a president even though he may be good to assume the presidency and all that….but we the NDC are serious and want to win power come 2020, he said
