President of the University of Education Winneba’s branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Dr. Frimpong Kakyire Duku says he did no wrong to warrant his dismissal from the university.
Dr. Duku was dismissed by the university together with Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Principal of the College of Languages Education.

There has been a state of unrest among students of the university over the dismissals.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Dr. Duku said he was shocked by his dismissal.

“Somewhere around last year, I had the news that, because I have taken the university to court, I should appear before a committee and that was unsettling to me because the university was built on acts. And if you check the acts, it states clearly that a university shall be a corporate body with a perpetual succession of a common use and may be sued. So if I am in the university and I believe something going on is wrong and I go to court for interpretation, how did this become an offence warranting a dismissal,” he asked.

Dr. Duku said he did not breach any internal regulations as mentioned in the letter of dismissal.
Dr Frimpong Duku had taken the university because a new governing council had not been formed after the old council was dissolved in 2017 due to change in government.
He said the university had not been fully operational since Nana Akufo-Addo took over as President of the country.
Excerpts of the letter of dismissal in respect of Dr. Duku read” “The Disciplinary Board set up at the instance of the Vice-Chancellor to further investigate your conduct in respect of court action you initiated together with six other staff who were asked to step aside.”
