The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) ,Prof. Kwesi Opoku Amankwah has confirmed he has no idea who actually designed the New JHS Uniform.
The Director General made this revelation on citi fm ,an Accra based radio station on Friday evening with Umaru Sanda during an evening news presentation.
The Director General was not able to tell who designed the New Uniform even though he announced the introduction of the said uniform during a launch of the New Basic School Curriculum.
Earlier, there has been reports on social media alleging that the Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has awarded a $350 million contract for the supply of the newly approved school uniform for public junior high school students to his relative.
According to the Ministry of Education, all the reports are false and without merit, adding that those erroneous claims are aimed at creating a public disaffection for the Education Ministry.
Meanwhile, the comment made by the Director, claiming he has no knowledge about who designed the uniform sparked new controversies surrounding the earlier allegations against the Minister.
During the launch of the curriculum and the uniform,Prof. Amankwah indicated the Education Minister sent a memo to cabinet for the approval of the uniforms .
It was unclear whether the Uniforms introduction was a decision by the Ghana Education Service or the Minister for Education,Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.
