I’ll file an official protest in Heaven if I see Peace Council Chairman Rev Asante there too — NDC activist

An activist of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hanan Confidence Abdul has said he will file an official protest in Heaven if he gets there and finds Chairman of the Peace Council, Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante there too, MyNewsGh.com reports.

Rev. Asante incurred the wrath of opposition activists when he called on former President John Dramani Mahama to apologize to the nation for saying the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will match the governing New Patriotic Party boot-for-boot with violence if Ayawaso Wuogon repeats itself in the 2020 polls.
Hanan Confidence’s comment comes after another NDC activist Yayra Koku Deku attacked the Chairman of the National Peace Council over his attack on former President Mahama regarding the Mahama’s ‘boot-for-boot’ comment on violence against NDC members during last week’s by-election.
According to Mr Yayra Koku, the Chairman of the Peace Council is himself a huge threat to the peace and stability of the country. He said Rev. Asante has consistently been selective in his comments on violence, wondering why the Peace Council Chairman did not condemn violence on Ningo Prampram MP Sam George but was quick in condemning former President John Mahama.

Adding his voice to the issue, Hanan Confidence says he doubts Rev Prof Asante of the Peace Council will make it to Heaven.

“On Judgement Day, if I see Rev. Asante, the chairman of the National Peace Council in Heaven, I will protest” he wrote.

Mr Mahama who was addressing NDC delegates in the Adaklu Constituency of the Volta Region on Thursday, 31 January 2019, said the NDC will match the NPP boot-for-boot in the 2020 elections if the government attempts to intimidate and harass NDC supporters with violence.

The former president’s comment followed a shooting incident at the La-Bawaleshie JHS polling station in the course of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election on the same day. The NDC accused the NPP of being behind the shooting.
Mr Mahama said: “We are not going to joke in 2020, and I’m sounding a warning to the NPP – we are going to match them boot for boot…”
Manasseh on Peace Council Chairman
Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni had called the posture of the Peace Council “shameful”, for not condemning the violence that took place first, before condemning Mr Mahama.

He wrote: “President Mahama’s words are unfortunate, but President Akufo-Addo’s empty condemnation for the past two years of growing violence is worse. And if the Chairman of the Peace Council knows what creating fear really means, he should have first condemned the masked and armed men as well as those who deployed them. It is shameful for the Peace Council to see President Mahama’s speech as “really creating fear” when it failed to see the danger in deploying armed men outside the constitutionally mandated security forces to conduct operations during elections.”
