On the back of an accident involving the Vice President’s convoy over the weekend, a former presidential staffer has asserted that neither former President Mahama nor President John Evans Attah-Mills, of blessed memory, ever had a road accident, a claim that has been challenged.
Mr. Stan Dogbe adds to the many who have reacted to the concern about what appear to be too many accidents involving sitting Presidents and their Vice Presidents.

Kwame Gyan, a staff of the Ministry of Communication wrote on Facebook, “if I am not mistaken, each of our Presidents and Veeps in this 4th Republic has had an accident involving their convoys. Luckily for us, none has been terribly hurt. But sadly, a number of people have died – journalists, drivers, and security people. ”

But he was mistaken. According to Mr. Dogbe, “President Mahama’s convoy has never had an accident before, and that is a fact.”
This claim was challenged by an international lawyer, Ekow Essuman, who cited several press reports to buttress this point.
“Stan Xoese Dogbe, I agree with what you have written except your recollection of President Mills and Mahama’s convoys never having an accident. That was not necessary. Because we all know their convoys had accidents.

Stan Dogbe who served as a Presidential Staffer during the tenures of former Presidents John Evans Attah-Mills of blessed memory and John Dramani Mahama, reacted with an explanation on why all the press reports on accidents involving his bosses were misrepresentations.
He responded: “The unfortunate press vehicle accident was traveling by itself, and not in a convoy of the President. Indeed, at the time the unfortunate incident happened, the President was in situ, in Ho, and the press vehicle was all alone, not even with another vehicle.
“And just to add that the single-vehicle accident reported by myjoyonline claiming it was transporting the president’s family was false… and that was indicated later. And it was a single vehicle with a military driver and assumed to be the president’s family. Not a convoy.

“Outsiders’ see the convoy movements differently from those within it, and my account above is my firsthand experience with convoys over a period.”

Over the weekend a press release signed by the spokesperson to Vice President read in part “Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia escaped unhurt in a motor accident On Saturday, 16th February 2019. The incident occurred around 6:30 pm on the Takoradi – Cape Coast highway as he returned from some activities in the western region.
“The driver of a commercial vehicle which was also involved in the accident, unfortunately, however, passed on,” the statement by GideonBoako (PhD) said.
