The 2024 Budget Estimates of the Office of Government Machinery have been approved by Parliament. The allocated amount for the 2024 financial year is GH¢2,074,827,164.00.

The Finance Committee, led by Kwaku Kwarteng, presented a report to the plenary regarding the approved budgetary allocation for 2024. In paragraph 7.10.2, it was mentioned that an amount of GH¢308,944,822 has been allocated for the authority’s operations in 2024.

Unfortunately, the allocation does not cover payments that result from the Government and Support Agreement.

The allocation, in his view, does not provide a comprehensive representation of the government’s dedication to the Ghana-Card project for the 2024 financial year.

The Committee kindly requested the Ministry of Finance to prepare projections for potential payments related to the GSA and allocate them to the National Identification Authority, NIA. This will provide a transparent overview of the government’s commitments to the partnership and the expenses associated with the projects.

The report states that in 2024, the Office of the President and its agencies will carry out several activities.

These include celebrating Ghana’s 67th Independence Anniversary and 2024 Founders Day, conducting maintenance activities at the Jubilee House, Peduase Lodge, and six other lodges, providing support for state and state-assisted funerals, hosting Heads of State and other foreign senior government officials, and organising Cabinet meetings and retreats.

In the upcoming year, the Millennium Development Authority plans to construct and complete sustainable, climate smart irrigation systems to cover an area of 7,000 acres at Kasunya. All anchor farmers will be operationalized by April, 2024, as per the plans of the Authority.

We would train and enable 500 youth farmers and also construct accommodation for 300 youth farmers.

The Banda Enclave aims to clear and develop 6000 acres of land for cultivation of various commodities. Additionally, they plan to set up irrigation systems and engage prospective anchor farmers. Additionally, it would construct equipment storage and warehousing facilities.

In the Kumawu enclave, the Authority plans to clear and develop 10,000 acres of land for production. In addition, it will establish irrigation systems and collaborate with potential anchor farmers. Additionally, it will construct equipment shed and warehousing facilities.

In the field of Public Sector Reform, the Secretariat will focus on reviewing the National Public Sector Reform Strategy (NPSRS) and implementing the Public Sector Reform for results Project (PSRRP).

Additionally, the Secretariat will continue to coordinate the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Initiatives through various activities such as printing the OGP 5″ National Action Plan, organising sectorial engagements with implementation agencies and key stakeholders to share the 5 OGP Action Plan.
