Students of the University Education Winneba (UEW) are resolving to stay out of lecture halls until the three dismissed senior lecturers of the institution are reinstated, MyNewsGh.com has gathered.
Three senior members of the university including Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh former Upper East Regional Minister and Principal of the College of Languages Education at Ajumako, one Dr. Frimpong Kakyire Duku who is the local President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and Dr. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong of Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS) have been dismissed.
But the students who are enraged about the decision believed to have been masterminded by the Vice-Chancellor Reverend Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni they accused of victimization have declared a boycott of lectures on campus in protest of the decision.
On Tuesday, the students in hundreds converged at the Simpa roundabout and marched to the Administration Block to the Faculty Blocks in the North Campus and then back to the Administration block.
They were later addressed by the Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah but said they were not satisfied with what he told them and are pressing further.
“We were addressed by the Minister of State for Tertiary Education but as students of Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports we weren’t satisfied with what the Hon. Minister told us. The Minister only advised us to return to the lecture halls whiles assuring us that they will find a solution to our concerns within the shortest possible time. We viewed his statements as mere “political talks”.
“All we are asking for is that Dr. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong be reinstated and till that happens, we aren’t attending lectures”, leaders of the demonstrators indicated.
