A/R: 3 dead,1 injured in Asanko mine and Tontokrom residents clash

Three persons have been reported dead at Tontokrom – Manso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region as Asanko mine allegedly sent land guards(Macho men) to intimidate residents of the community.

Another person was said to have sustained injury through the act.

According to reports,all the victims were men.

According to Mr. Appiah Emmanuel,a resident who witnessed the incident in an interview with brightweb team said, the aforementioned ‘macho’ men arrived with five sprinter buses with each of them having full passengers on board.

On their arrival,the residents confronted them to know their mission where they fired a gun which got two people,this act aroused anger in the youth of the community to retaliate which also led to the death of two of the guards.

Speaking to brightwebtv news reporter, Sarkodie Samuel on March 2,2024,the witness disclosed that the men in the community have ran into bushes to save their lives.

He noted that the lives of the jresidents of Tontokrom are in jeopardy and so called on government and other stakeholders to come their aid to protect them.

The residents on March 1,2024,held a press conference to draw the attention of government to give them their own share of the national cake regarding the community mining policy of the ruling New Patriotic Party.

The press conference,they believe did not go down well with the leadership of Asanko mine which led to the alleged attack on the residents.

The victim who sustained injury was said to have been sent to Agroyesum government hospital for treatment.
