Armed soldiers and police officers have been deployed to Agogo in the Asante Akyem Municipality of the Ashanti Region to drive away Fulani herdsmen following recent reports of killings in the area, MyNewsGh.com reports
Last year over hundred soldiers and police officers were deployed to Agogo and its environs which help reduce the number of attacks on locals mostly farmers.
Residents of Agogo have complained about the returning of Fulani herdsmen and their cattle to the area despite government’s effort to drive the herdsmen away from Agogo and its environs.
MyNewsGh.com confirmed that 35-year-old security man with Scanfarm Company Limited at Agogo in the Asante Akyem District of the Ashanti Region on Saturday January 12, 2018 was shot dead by a suspected Fulani herdsmen.
David Ntiabak, was found in a pool of blood by his colleague in a sorghum farm.
According to report, the deceased was shot dead while trying to prevent the Fulani herdsmen’s cattle from grazing on the sorghum farm he was employed to protect.
40 soldiers and police officers on Friday stormed Agogo community.
They were welcomed by the Municipal Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante Akyem North Oti Boateng and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem North Andy Appiah Kubi.
Speaking to Agogo Police Commander, DSP James Ameka he said security would be beefed up in Agogo and other communities near Agogo henceforth to ward off further attacks on residents.
According DSP James Ameka, Fulani herdsmen have returned to the communities in their numbers saying measures have been put in place to drive them away.
