Police in Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping a woman at Gomoa Amoanda, a small community in the Central Region.

The alleged rapist, Jacob Asemenyi reportedly went into the room of the victim at Gomoa Amoanda when she was asleep and forcefully had sex with her.

Speaking to Citi News in an interview, DSP Paul Ankan, the Dominase District Police Commander explained that the rapist sneaked into the room of the victim (name withheld) at the time when the husband had gone for hunting in a nearby forest and the lights were off at the time.

“He sneaked into the room of the victim when the husband had gone for hunting in the nearby forest,” the Police Commander noted.

“But upon further interrogations, we realized that he was under the influence of alcohol and that influenced his decision to rape the victim,” Dominase Police Commander added.

Meanwhile, the victim told Citi News that she was only able to detect that it was not the husband she was having sexual intercourse with because the man was smelling of alcohol and the husband does not drink alcohol.

“I noticed that he was smelling of alcohol but my husband does not drink alcohol. That was how I managed to notice it was not my husband,” the victim explained.

“I pushed him aside and started screaming and this drew the attention of some residents who rushed to the scene to help me. I was also naked because the lights were off and it was hot at the time so he got easy access to me,” she added.

Husband of the victim, Kwame Sakyi is, however, seeking for justice.

He again noted that the help of the people in the community caused the arrest of the suspect.

DSP Ankan said efforts are being put in place to arraign the suspect.
