Cleaner arrested for conducting illegal abortion

A 60-year-old casual worker (Cleaner) at the Akuse Government Hospital in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality has been arrested by the police for conducting illegal abortion as a doctor.

According to the Akuse District Police Commander, Supt. Winfred Asare-Nyarko, his men had to go undercover for months to expose the suspect’s illegal medical practices who had in his possession several medical equipment and supplies in his residence.

The suspect, given only as Mr Sowah has been arraigned at the Odumase Court and has been remanded into prisons custody.

Supt. Asare-Nyarko said his outfit has commenced investigations into the matter to get to the bottom of it.

Authorities at the Akuse Government Hospital have disassociated themselves from the illegal actions of their cleaner and have assured they will assist in the investigation.
