Illegal Mining: Aisha Huang’s four-year prison term will serve as deterrent to others – Small Scale Miners

Small Scale Miners Association of Ghana has commended the Judicial system of Ghana for the ruling of Aisha Huang, known as the ‘Galamsey Queen.

According to them, they are in support of the Aisha Huang judgement.

Aisha Huang, known as the ‘Galamsey Queen,’ has been found guilty of all charges brought against her by the state.

The Accra High Court handed down a four-year prison term to her on Monday, December 4, asaaseradio.com reports

Aisha Huang, standing trial for illegal mining operations without a license, facilitating unlawful participation in mining, and re-entering Ghana post-deportation, had consistently denied the charges and remained in prison custody.

Speaking in an interview monitored by Elvisanokyenews.net o Tuesday, 5th December, 2023 the Ashanti Regional Secretary of Small Scale Miners Association, Abdul Razak Alhassan said the sentence will serve as a deterrent to other foreign nationals ad some Ghanaians whose activities contradict to the mining Act.

“Some of us the four-year sentence is not enough but we believe it will serve as a deterrent to other foreign nationals and some Ghanaians whose activities contradict the mining Act.” He said.

Razak Alhassan therefore urged the government to ensure that Aisha Huang serve all the four-year prison term.
