According to a survey, many students in the UK are engaging in sex work – dating “sugar daddies”, selling nudes, having sex, acting on webcam, etc – so as to have enough money to survive on campus , report the Independent newspaper in the UK.
4% of students admitted to doing some form of sex work in 2019 as compared to only 2% in 2017.
The major causes of this trend is the hike in prices and the lack of adequate support systems for students.
The Independent reports that: “The survey, of more than 3,300 undergraduates, carried out by money advice website Save the Student, found that students are most likely to sell intimate photos or used underwear to get cash,” adding that “A lack of financial support is encouraging the trend across UK universities, the report suggests.”
Even though sex work is illegal in the UK, it is still very much widespread.
