In 2018, reports said some prison officers had been dismissed for being part of an Indian hemp smuggling network who provide the substance to the prisons to inmates at a fee.
Some individuals have also been arrested for attempted to smuggle such substances to their friends and relatives in prisons custody by lacing food they bring in with the drugs.
