Survivors of fatal Beahu accident recount ordeal

Some survivors of the Beahu gory accident in the Ahanta West District of the Western receiving treatment at the Kwesimintsim Hospital have shared their ordeal with Citi News.

The accident, which resulted in six deaths happened late afternoon on Tuesday when a Truck that had stopped in the middle of the road because of a broken shaft, was hit from behind by an Urvan bus.

The accident scene at Beahu attracted several onlookers. The Urvan bus with registration number WR 1607-18 and a Man Diesel Tipper truck with registration number GT6620-B, both heading towards Takoradi from Agona-Nkwanta were towed away under the supervision of the Police MTTD to clear traffic.

The Urvan bus, which crashed into the stationary truck in the middle of the road was badly mangled with blood and some belongings of victims scattered in it.

Western Regional Police PRO, DSP Olivia Adiku confirmed to Citi News that the six people who died had been sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional hospital mortuary, and an unknown number of survivors to the Kwesimintsim hospital.

At the Kwesimintsim hospital, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ernest Anderson spoke to Citi News about the state of survivors, saying they are doing everything possible to save more lives.

While some critically injured victims were in serious pain, Eunice and Stephen who also survived the accident managed to tell Citi News how it all happened.

“I was at the front-side of the car together with a lady, but after bypassing a community before Beahu, we saw a metal in the middle of the road. The driver swerved the metal rod but ended up crashing into the truck in the middle of the road, and all I saw was that many people were injured,” Stephen, a survivor said.

Meanwhile, the identities of the dead and most of the injured are still unknown, but the Agona-Nkwanta police have begun their investigation.
