A woman who stole a baby in Takoradi has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Sekondi Gender Court.
Mawusi Rose Fiaku and her suspected accomplice, Lawson Lartey, who is also her boyfriend, were charged with child stealing and abetment of crime.

They were arrested by the Western Regional SWAT at Effiakuma-Takoradi, in possession of one-year-old Francis Mawusi Ahiabenu, who was stolen from his mother at the Takoradi Market Circle last month.
At the last sitting, Lawson Larte was given a bail of ten thousand Ghana Cedis with two sureties, after he denied knowing anything about the incident.

While Mawusi pleaded guilty to the charges, Lawson pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by a judge, Abena Agyin Doku on Friday ordered Mawusi Rose Fiaku, to undergo a psychiatric test.
This was after the suspect told the court she has not had a baby before, contrary to what she had told the court in a previous proceeding.

Mawusi Rose Fiaku was directed to undergo the psychiatric test following an admission by her mother that her daughter had been behaving abnormally even before the baby theft.
Mawusi’s boyfriend, Lawson Lartey who is the second accused was not asked any question by the court but was however given bail in the sum of GHc10,000 with two sureties to reappear in court on April 26.
